About

Sophie Clark writes dark & romantic fantasy featuring wounded girls with sharp edges, charming boys who fall for them anyway, corrupted gods and other unholy things. Her debut novel Cruel is the Light is coming out with Knopf | Penguin Random House in January 2025.

In Cruel is the Light a brutal war between demons and man has raged across Europe for over a century. When Selene, an elite Vatican exorcist, crosses paths with Jules, a mysterious soldier, forbidden attraction soon follows. Together, they will discover a terrible secret that questions the very foundations of their world.

She is represented by Josh Adams at Adams Literary

Sophie has a Masters of International Relations from the University of Melbourne, and has worked as a parliamentary advisor and for the Australian Senate. As a Pitch Wars class of ’21 alum, she was chosen to work with NYT bestseller Lauren Blackwood (Within These Wicked Walls) and author Emily Thiede (This Vicious Grace)
